‘Yeh 20 over ka match halak mein fansana zarroori hai kya’ – Fans relieved as India beat Afghanistan in third T20I after battling for two Super Overs

In the third and last T20I, India and Afghanistan locked horns at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Ahead of the game, the Men In Blue had taken an unassailable lead of 2-0, having smacked the Afghans in these games. In this game, the Afghans were looking to win their first-ever T20I against India and take some pride. Meanwhile, in this game, for the first time in the series, India chose to bat.

However, the team had a poor start as they lost four wickets for 22 runs. Fareed Ahmad, who played the first game of the series, took the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Sanju Samson, also playing his first game. On the other hand, Azmatullah Omarzai took the wicket of in-from Shivam Dube. At this stage, the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh took the game away from the Afghans.

Not to forget, the former was coming off two back-to-back ducks. Meanwhile, the right-hander hit his fifth T20I hundred and Singh scored an unbeaten fifty. In the end, they put together 190 runs for the fifth wicket and the team finished 212/5.

In reply, the Blue Brigade had a decent start but they were behind the required run rate. The opening pair of Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a fifty each and put together 93 runs in 11 overs. After this partnership was broken, the team lost two quick wickets to be reduced to 107/3. At this point, former captains, Gulbadin Naib and Mohammad Nabi put together 56 runs off 22 balls to keep the game alive.

Sundar, who picked the wickets of Zadran and Omarzai, broke the partnership with the wicket of Nabi. However, Gulbadin scored 21-ball 50 and kept the team in the game till the last ball. On the last ball, the all-rounder scored two runs out of the three required and the game went into the Super Over. In the one-over Eliminator, the visitors scored 16/1, losing the wicket of Naib. In reply, the home team scored as many runs with Sharma retiring out ahead of the last ball.
