‘I am very sure India will….’ – Former India head coach Greg Chappell talks about India hosting World Cup

With less than two months left for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, the Men in Blue are gearing up for the mega tournament as the hosts. Notably, Team India last won the World Cup in 2011 after defeating Sri Lanka in the final match at Wankhede Stadium under the captaincy of legendary skipper MS Dhoni, and this time they are also gearing up to win the title as the home team. Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, former Australian cricketer Gregg Chappell has called India the favourites to win the upcoming World Cup.

Notably, the former India head coach said that home soil makes a huge difference. In addition, the legendary cricketer feels the Men in Blue have a great chance to win the title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid. However, the right-handed batter says that Team India is exceptionally good when playing in their home conditions, as he experienced the same when he was the head coach for Team India.

“Home advantage makes a huge difference, and I am very sure India will start favourites on home soil. When I was coach of India, one thing I observed was that the Indians are very comfortable in dealing with any challenges thrown at them by any opposition at home. It was evident to me sitting inside the Indian change room and looking out. It has not changed, and this Indian team under Rohit [Sharma] and Rahul [Dravid] is a very good one. I think they have a good chance in home conditions,” Greg Chappell said.

Meanwhile, the star top-order batter has urged Indian fans not to get heartbroken if Rohit Sharma’s side fails to lift the title.

“Having said that winning these tournaments is never easy. So I would urge caution if you are an Indian fan. Be cautiously optimistic. While India will have a very good chance, if things don’t go your way, you should not be heartbroken for it can happen in sport,” he added further.
