‘Arey ye kya ho raha hai yaar’ – Fans react as Shubman Gill sets to miss couple of matches in ODI World Cup 2023 due to dengue fever

Rohit Sharma and Co. will be starting their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia on October 8 at MA Chidambaram in Chennai. Ahead of their opening game, the Men in Blue suffered a major setback on October 6. According to recent reports, India’s star opener Shubman Gill is set to miss a couple of ODI World Cup 2023 matches owing to his high dengue fever.

Notably, the blow is huge for the ODI World Cup 2023 hosts. Undeniably, the top-order batter was one of the best batsmen for Team India, owing to his stellar and high-peak form. Shubman Gill has lost the opportunity to be the leading run-scorer as he sets to miss a few matches of the marquee event.

According to reports, the great cricketer got dengue symptoms on September 30 during the ODI World Cup warm-up game in Guwahati. Meanwhile, Indian Cricket Board management has not named his backup. It clearly seems that Mumbai Indians star Ishan Kishan will open the innings in Gill’s absence, along with Rohit Sharma.

Following the same, star middle-order batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will bat in the middle order. However, one may witness Suryakumar Yadav in the lower order owing to his hitting power in the death overs. Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin is also set to play owing to his batting skills in the middle order in the absence of Gill.

Stylish right-handed batter Shubman Gill has played 20 ODIs this year while accumulating 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 with a solid strike rate of 106. Notably, the 24-year-old cricketer has struck five centuries in the 50-over format. A team official made the following statement to Cricbuzz on Friday morning: “He’s not feeling well, and the medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hopeful for his speedy recovery.”

Meanwhile, the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign kicked off on October 5, with New Zealand’s magnificent win over defending Champions England.
