‘The opportunity now is we’ve got some teams…….’ – Pat Cummins feels his team can turn around their awful ODI World Cup 2023 campaign
Australia are all set to lock horns against Sri Lanka for their third game of the ODI World Cup 2023, which is slated to take place on October 16. Notably, the five-time world champions lost their first game against hosts India and suffered a major blow against South Africa in their next game of the marquee event. Following the back-to-back losses, Australia skipper Pat Cummins has opened up about his emotions and feelings ahead of their third game.
The great seamer accepted that they have always faced challenges against Team India and Proteas and talked about their 2019 ODI World Cup journey, where the Aussies lost to both teams only. Notably, the right-arm pacer is confident enough to fight hard against the other teams in the marquee event.
“Looking back at 2019, India and South Africa were the two teams that we lost to in the round games there. In the last year, they’re kind of the two teams that we’ve had the most trouble against. So, the opportunity now is we’ve got some teams we haven’t played for a while that we’ve had a lot of success against and be really confident when we go out there,” Pat Cummins said.

Moreover, the 2023 WTC-winning skipper feels that they didn’t have an ideal start to the ODI World Cup 2023, as they are currently 0-2. In addition, the 30-year-old cricketer accepted that they needed to take their rest games as a must-win clash to stay in the big tournament. The star cricketer believes that they were not up to par, which made them lose their first two games.
“Not an ideal start at all. We’re obviously 0-2, so we’ve got to start winning and start winning quick. Every game now becomes almost like a final. You’ve got to win just about all of them. We’ve been off the mark and been outplayed both games. When we’re at our best, we’re putting big runs on the board,” he added further.
