WATCH: KL Rahul wins medal for being ‘best fielder’ for second time after India’s win over England
Team India defeated England by 100 runs in their sixth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 29 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. However, the Men in Blue have continued their medal ceremony for the ‘best fielding’ after every match of the marquee event. This time, wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul was given it in a unique way after their win over the defending champions on Sunday.
Notably, the LSG skipper got the award for the second time, as he got it for the first time after India’s win over arch-rivals Pakistan on October 14 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. Interestingly, KL Rahul was only the one who had taken the catch against England, as the rest of the batsmen were dismissed leg-before, bowled, or stumped.
Notably, following India’s great win, the Indian Cricket Board once again selected KL Rahul to be the “best fielder” in an unusual manner. Fielding coach Dilip TK led the whole Indian team out of the dressing room to make the final announcement. After that, the floodlights at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium turned out, revealing KL Rahul as the winner only while keeping his name and jersey number lit.
This was the game which showed a lot of character in the squad: Rohit Sharma
“This was the game which showed a lot of character in the squad. When the times were tough, all our experienced players stood up at the right time and got the game for us. Looking at how the tournament has gone for us, batting second in the first five games, we had to come and bat here,” Rohit Sharma, who was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’, said in the post-match presentation ceremony on Sunday.
“All I was thinking was to be positive, the balls in my area I want to put it away, that’s how you put pressure back on the bowlers and the opposition as well. When you look at the overall picture, I thought we were 30 runs short,” he added further.
