Not in full fitness…….’ – Shubman Gill opens up on his fitness level after dengue bout following 92 vs Sri Lanka
Team India defeated Sri Lanka by 302 runs in their seventh game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 2 at Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. became the first team to seal their spot in the semi-final of the tournament, as well as sit at the top position after registering wins in seven out of seven games.
Meanwhile, India’s opening batsman, Shubman Gill, who scored 92 runs and sparked the great partnership of 189 runs with modern master, Virat Kohli, has opened up about his fitness after the game. The 24-year-old batsman made the shocking revelation that he is not fully fit and has lost four kilograms of weight due to dengue. Notably, the stylish right-handed batsman has suffered from high dengue fever since the ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up fixture, which makes him miss the clash against five-time world champions Australia and Afghanistan. Shubman Gill made his ODI World Cup debut against Pakistan.
“Not in full fitness. I am four kilos down from dengue in terms of mass and muscle weight. We thought about rotating the strike today. The oddball was seaming and I hit the balls in my areas. You couldn’t get into a shell. I looked to put pressure on the bowlers. I felt in the previous matches I got starts except the last one,” Shubman Gill said during the post-match presentation.
I honestly don’t think it was a 400 wicket: Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill has also opened up about the talk he had with chase master Virat Kohli during the game. The Punjab-born cricketer feels that the pitch wasn’t for about 400 runs, and he was happy that they were able to post over 350 runs, which they had expected. Moreover, the Gujarat Titans star heaps praise on Mohammed Siraj as well as Shreyas Iyer.
“We thought about rotating the strike today. I honestly don’t think it was a 400-wicket. We batted well to get 350. The way they were bowling, we were anticipating wickets. Siraj is always fired up. They were sensational. They have made the job easier for us. Shreyas was the key today. He batted superbly,” he added further.
