‘I saw sense of selfishness in Virat Kohli’s…’ – Former Pakistan all-rounder’s outrageous claim on Virat Kohli’s historic 49th ODI ton

Team India won their recent clash against South Africa on November 5 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata owing to fantastic batting efforts by Virat Kohli on his birthday. The stylish right-handed batsman has been making headlines since he won the record with Mater Blaster Sachin Tendulkar after his magnificent ODI ton. Notably, a plethora of cricket experts and former cricketers have started praising India’s swashbuckling star owing to his great milestone.

However, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez made a massive claim on Virat Kohli despite his historic feat against the in-form Proteas in their recent game. The cricket analyst says he felt selfishness in Virat Kohli’s batting, and he says this was noticed around three times in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The great cricketer reveals that Virat Kohli was eager to achieve his milestone by overtaking his team’s win first.

“I saw a sense of selfishness in Virat Kohli’s batting and this happened for the third time in this World Cup. In the 49th over, he was looking to take a single to reach his own hundred and he didn’t put the team first,” Mohammad Hafeez said.

Rohit Sharma could have played selfish cricket too: Mohammad Hafeez

Moreover, the former right-handed batsman cited the example of Rohit Sharma while making this bold and audacious claim. The 43-year-old cricketer says that the Indian skipper always puts the team above his milestones. Moreover, the Sargodha-born cricketer reveals that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma can also hit a century, but his goal is different and bigger as compared to the RCB stalwart.

“Rohit Sharma could have played selfish cricket too, but he didn’t because he is playing for Team India and not for himself. You have to give credit to Rohit Sharma. The way he is sacrificing his innings with the right intent is commendable. The way he batted in the first six overs. He gave that sucker punch to South Africa. He knew the pitch would get difficult and must attack when the ball was new and hard. Your captain can also play like you but his goal is bigger than his achievement. Rohit can also hit centuries,” he added further.
