‘MS Dhoni had more politics to deal with than Ricky Ponting’- Brad Hogg picks best cricket captain
Former Australia player Bradd Hogg has played under the legendary player Ricky Ponting which is what makes him ideal to answer a question about his captaincy. Something exactly like this took place when Hogg was doing a Q&A session on YouTube when he was asked to pick a better captain from MS Dhoni and Ricky Ponting.
The 51-year-old prefaced with comparing the two and suggesting that the two had incredibly successful careers as captains. He however reckoned that managing more politics and egos in the team pips Dhoni slightly ahead when it comes to captaincy.
“Ricky Ponting had a wonderful team. MS Dhoni had a great team as well. For me, both did exceptionally well, both have got a fantastic records. You cannot separate them. I’d say that MS Dhoni probably had more politics to deal with in Indian cricket than what Ricky Ponting did. That probably puts Dhoni slightly in front of Ricky Ponting,” Hogg said during a Q&A session on YouTube when a asked him to pick a better captain between Dhoni and Ponting.
Hogg also suggested that Ponting had an experienced group of players around him which made captaincy a little easier for him.
“The other thing with Ricky Ponting is he had a lot of cricketers around that were really experienced and knew their roles and knew what to do as well. He only had to control certain aspects of the game. Most of the attitudes of the players, the discipline of the players, the plans of the players knowing what to do, they all knew it.
In the end, however, he names Dhoni to be slightly ahead of Australian legend Ponting when it came to captaincy.
“It’s a tough one, but MS Dhoni with the extra politics that he might have had in India probably just puts him in front. Sorry, Ricky!” he added.
