‘It certainly cheapens this series’ – Michael Hussey slams India vs Australia T20I series right after ODI World Cup 2023

Team India is all set to lock horns against Australia for the fourth T20I game slated to take place on December 1 in Raipur. Notably, the hosts are 2-1 in the five matches of the series, with two more matches to go. However, former Australia cricketer Michael Hussey has criticised the India vs. Australia T20I bilateral series, which is taking place just after the ODI World Cup 2023, without giving any rest to the players.

The former Aussie star reiterated that the matches are not degrading the World Cup but spoiling the series. In addition, the former batting legend feels players should get the rest after the marquee event so that they can come out in their best form to play the game with high intensity. The legendary cricketer has slammed the cricket boards of both teams for planning the series just after the ODI World Cup 2023.

“It doesn’t cheapen the World Cup but it certainly cheapens this series. There would be a number of guys who were at the World Cup (for both nations) would probably be in their T20 teams. They went home to either prepare for a Test series or simply to take a break. It’s just amazing how much (cricket boards) pack on a calendar to play so much cricket,” Michael Hussey said.

I certainly feel like this T20 series has been devalued: Michael Hussey

Michael Hussey feels it is physically and mentally impossible for the players to play all forms of the game together. Notably, Australia was preparing for the ODI World Cup before the T20I series. However, they are set to host Pakistan for the three matches of the Test series scheduled to take place on December 14 in Perth. Moreover, the former middle-order batter affirms that this series has been devalued.

“It is physically and mentally impossible to play all of the tournaments that are going on. This is certainly not the best Australian T20 team going up against the best India T20 team. I certainly feel like this T20 series has been devalued. I might be in the minority here but I think (ODI cricket) is a great game. It caters for so many different types of players,” he added further.
