Reports suggest potential start date for IPL 2024
Reports suggest that the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) might start on the 22nd of March and end by the end of May. While it is yet to be finalised, there is a good chance that the IPL will start a bit early this time around. The T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA will be starting in June. Hence, IPL will have to be wrapped up as soon as possible.
Reports suggest that the players from teams like South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, West Indies, and Australia are set to be fully available for the tournament. On the other hand, the availability of England players for the entire tournament is a bit doubtful given their national schedule. These factors will play a role in the auction strategy of the teams.
England has some terrific players in the auction like Chris Woakes, Davis Willey, Rehan Ahmed, Adil Rashid, and others. While some of them are contenders to be in the Playing XI and the squad, some others might not be burdened by the national call-up. But the teams would be looking for stability in the roles for the entire tournament in the IPL 2024.
Josh Hazlewood to be available from May
Australia’s premium pacer Josh Hazlewood will not be available till the month of May in the season. The move comes from the Australian, as he and his wife would be expecting the birth of their child towards the end of April. The Australian pacer is likely to be available at the end of the first week in May. Even in the IPL 2023, Hazlewood was not available for a full season due to injuries.
In March and April 2024, Bangladesh will be playing a series against Sri Lanka. As a result, Bangladeshi pacers like Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam are likely to be unavailable for selection in the IPL 2024. A total of 77 slots are to be filled in the squad and 30 of them are from overseas in the 17th edition of the league. Teams will be managing their purse accordingly before targeting a player.
