KL Rahul reveals reason behind India’s loss in 2nd ODI against South Africa

Team India lost the second ODI against South Africa on December 19. Notably, the three matches of the ODI series have levelled up by 1-1, and both teams will be looking forward to win the third ODI game, which is slated to take place on December 21. Team India performed exceptionally well in the first ODI. However, the hosts bounced back magnificently to defeat the visiting side in the second ODI.

Stand-in skipper KL Rahul has recently opened up about the loss against the Proteas. The wicketkeeper batter says that Sai Sudarshan and he must have tried to go for a hundred after crossing 50 runs in the second ODI to make a difference in the game. In addition, the 31-year-old cricketer reveals that they were planning to score 240 runs in the game, but they lost a few wickets, which cost them the game.

“There was a bit of help in the wicket in the 1st half. It was a hard wicket but having said that Sai and I were set, had we gone on and made a big 100, we could have got 50-60 extra and those are learnings we will take from here. Had we got 240 would have been good but unfortunately we lost wickets at regular intervals and they had help from the wicket,” KL Rahul said being quoted by Times of India

KL Rahul has also opened up about their game plan and individual plan after the loss. However, the middle-order batter accepted that there was a lot of help in the first ten overs, but they could not continue putting pressure on the bowlers, which cost them the game.

“We trust in each individual’s games and each individual’s game plan and what they feel is comfortable with – that’s what we tell them, there’s no right or wrong in cricket and you trust the players to come up with their own game plans. There was a bit of help in the first 10 overs and we beat the bat a lot, one edge we did not hold on to, had we taken that we could have put pressure on South Africa,” he added further.
