South Africa star batter Dean Elgar set to retire from international cricket after Tests against India

South African star batter Dean Elgar is set to announce his retirement from international cricket after two day Test match series against India, which are slated to take place on December 26 in Centurion. The top-order batter has played 84 Test matches while going on to score 5146 runs, for the highest score of 199 in his cricketing career. In addition, the opening batter has 13 centuries and 23 fifties to his name on the red ball of the game.
Meanwhile, according to reports, Dean Elgar declared himself that the upcoming two matches of the Test series against India would be his last. Notably, the second Test match, which is slated to take place in Cape Town, will be his last game of international cricket. In addition, the top-order batter is ecstatic to end his career at Cape Town, with which he started his career against New Zealand.

“As they say, ‘all good things come to an end’, and the Indian home series will be my last, as I have made the decision to retire from our beautiful game. A game that has given me so much. The Cape Town Test will be my last. My favourite stadium in the world. A place I scored my first Test run against New Zealand and hopefully my last too,” Dean Elgar was quoted as saying in a CSA release.

The 36-year-old cricketer revealed his emotions about representing his country. Moreover, the great batter reveals that it was his wildest dream to represent the country. Furthermore, the left-handed batter feels he was very fortunate to have had such an incredible cricketing journey.

“Playing the game of cricket has always been a dream of mine but having the opportunity to represent your country is the ultimate. Having had the privilege to do it for 12 years internationally is simply beyond my wildest dreams. It has been an incredible journey that I have been fortunate enough to have,” the statement read further.
