‘Hitman for a reason’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma addresses pre-match conference ahead of first Test vs SA in Centurion
India’s captain Rohit Sharma was seen addressing the pre-match conference of two matches of the Test series slated to commence on December 26 in Centurion. Notably, the series marks the comeback of India’s captain Rohit Sharma after the ODI World Cup 2023 final loss. However, the 36-year-old skipper opted for a break from the White Ball Series tour against the Proteas.
The great cricketer feels the next two matches of the Test series will be a challenge for him. However, Rohit Sharma feels bowlers can dominate the game. The top-order batter feels the pitch is much more bouncy, which makes the game challenging and dominating towards the seamers. In addition, the opening batter is all set to face the next challenge.
“That’s a challenge. When we went to Australia, England, South Africa it was a challenge. For them also, who are coming for the first time, it’ll be challenge. The bowlers dominate here a lot. The lateral movement the seamers get. The wickets get difficult later on as the cracks open and invariable bounce. It’ll be nice for all of us to put our hands up for the challenge,” Rohit Sharma said in the pre-match conference.
As a batter it’s always a challenge here in South Africa: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma called the series a very important one. However, the stylish right-handed batter reveals that they have a great opportunity to win the Test series, as they have never won in South Africa since 1992. The Maharashtra-born cricketer confirmed Mohammed Shami will miss the Test, but batters will look hard to dominate in the game.
“Very important Test series. We have never won a series here. It’s a big opportunity for us. We came close the last two times. That gives us a lot of excitement and encouragement to do our best. Our seamers have done well in Australia, England and South Africa. The seamers have actually pull their weight in. Shami will be a big miss. As a batter it’s always a challenge here in South Africa. It’s the hardest place to bat,” he added further.
