Rohit Sharma calls out Apex Cricket Council after Cape Town Test ended in record time
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has hit out at the Apex Cricket Council after the second Test ended on Thursday. Cape Town saw just 107 overs being played with India coming out trumps by 7 wickets.
The focus during the game was on the pitch as 23 wickets fell on the opening day of the Test. As the Indian skipper was sitting for the press conference Rohit Sharma minced no words about the state of the wicket.
Addressing the media, Rohit Sharma said that the Apex Cricket Body should maintain equal standards for all. After the ODI World Cup 2023 final, the Ahmedabad pitch had a below-average rating.
Rohit Sharma bats for less scrutiny over Indian pitches –
Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah’s six wickets helped Rohit Sharma and team India to win the Cape Town Test. At the end of the game, the Indian skipper didn’t hold back when giving his views on the game.
Taking a swipe at the Apex Cricket Council, the Indian skipper said “I mean, we saw what happened in this match, how the pitch played and stuff like that. Honestly, I don’t mind playing on pitches like these. As long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India and don’t talk too much about Indian pitches”
With India set to host England next, the focus will be on the playing surfaces during the series. Rohit Sharma though wasn’t done as he stressed on the need to find the right balance when it comes to Test Cricket.
“Because you come here to challenge yourself. Yes, it is dangerous. It is challenging and when people come to India, it is pretty challenging as well. Look when you are here to talk about Test Cricket we talk about Test Cricket. The ultimate prize, Test Cricket being the pinnacle and stuff like that, I think it’s important we stand by it”
Over the years many critics have attacked India over the massive amount of turn the wickets have seen. India’s last home test series against Australia saw three tests finish in three days to attract criticism.
While speaking to the media, Rohit mentioned “When you are put up against, a challenge like that, you come and face it. That’s what happens in India, but, in India on day one, if the pitch starts turning, people start talking about ‘Puff of dust! Puff of dust!’ There’s so much crack here on the pitch. People are not looking at that”
India’s skipper though wasn’t done as he wanted the Apex Cricket Council and Match Referees to be neutral. “I think it’s important we stay neutral everywhere we go. Especially the match referees. You know, some of these match referees need to keep their eye on how they rate pitches. It’s quite important. I still can’t believe that the World Cup final pitch was rated below average. A batsman got a hundred there in the final”
The explosive interaction with the Indian skipper thundering with intent when he said “So I hope they keep their ears open, they keep their eyes open and look into those aspects of the game. Honestly, I’m all for pitches like this. We want to challenge playing on pitches like this. We pride ourselves playing on pitches like this. But all I wanna say is be neutral”
