‘I didn’t know he is Rishabh Pant’ – Bus driver who rescued the cricketer after the accident

According to a Haryana Roadways bus driver who managed to remove cricketer Rishabh Pant from the Mercedes SUV after it collided with a road divider, he was unaware of the identity of the injured man and proceeded quickly to call for an ambulance. The SUV struck the barrier while traveling at a high speed in the opposite way, according to Sushil Mann, the bus driver, who spoke to NDTV.

Pant’s car collided with the divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway as he was driving back to Delhi from Uttarakhand. “I put my bus on the side and quickly ran towards the divider,” Mann said. “I thought the car would flip under the bus as it was turning over and over before it stopped,” he said. “The driver (Pant) was half out of the window. He told me he’s a cricketer,” Mann said, adding the cricketer asked him to call his mother, whose phone was, however, switched off.

“I don’t watch cricket and I didn’t know he is Rishabh Pant is. But others in my bus recognised him,” Mann stated. “After removing Rishabh, I quickly searched the car to check if anyone else was there. I took out his blue bag and ₹ 7,000-Rs 8,000 rupees from the car and gave it to him in the ambulance,” he added.

According to the authorities, the Delhi-born cricketer fell asleep while driving to his hometown of Roorkee this morning, which caused the accident. The high-speed collision caused the Mercedes SUV to catch fire. Hospital staff is attending to the Delhi franchise skipper.

Following the incident, the 25-year-old was taken to Max Hospital in Dehradun, where the Indian Cricket Board reported that the Indian wicketkeeper had sustained various injuries. His status is steady, nevertheless. Following the terrible accident, Virat Kohli, Shaheen Shah Afridi, VVS Laxman, and other members of the cricket fraternity wished Pant a speedy recovery.
