The Indian Cricket Board can’t control Indian T20 League franchises to manage the workload management – Reports

The Indian Cricket Board is concerned about potential injuries because of the increased burden of the demanding events. Thus, the forthcoming season of the Indian T20 League will be watched closely by an additional pair of watchful eyes.

The decision by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to collaborate with the franchises on the workload management of the players who have been shortlisted for the 2023 ODI World Cup was one of the key takeaways from the Board’s review meeting.

The Apex Cricket Council event has reportedly identified 20 players well in advance to prevent selection confusion during the lead-up to the tournament.

The Indian Cricket Board wants the players to control their workload during the forthcoming Indian T20 League season, which may require cricketers to play up to 18 matches in a two-month period, in an effort to prevent any potential injuries. Additionally, team India has a full international calendar year to anticipate.

However, it is not anticipated that they will entertain the idea of the board requesting that they rest a certain player or limit his participation. A franchise representative stated to the Indian Express:

“The Indian Cricket Board cannot ask the franchises to rest a player for any Indian T20 League game. They can of course monitor the workload and ask for any data to be shared, but they cannot fix a cap and say a certain player can play only X number of matches or can bowl only X number of overs.”

Both Cricket Australia (CA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which are prerequisites to competing, frequently include the possibility of workload management in their No Objection Certificate (NOC) documentation.

Franchises have complied with the requirement, thus far, and it is anticipated that they will do so again in the future season.

After the conclusion of the ODI series against Australia, the 2023 T20 competition is scheduled to start on either March 31 or April 1. After the cash-rich league concludes on June 1, Team India may play in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. The home-and-away format will once again be employed during the Indian T20 League’s upcoming season.
