Rohit Sharma opens up on decision for sending Sarfaraz Khan ahead of Ravindra Jadeja in 2nd innings of Rajkot Test
India’s captain Rohit Sharma has recently opened up about Sarfaraz Khan’s promotion ahead of Ravindra Jadeja during the second innings of the third Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Notably, India had registered a great win by 434 runs in the Rajkot Test and took the lead of 2-1 in the five-Test series matches.
However, Rohit Sharma had revealed that he wanted a right-handed and left-handed combination, which is why Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t sent when Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting at the top order. In addition, the 36-year-old skipper says that it wasn’t his confirmed position, and he had decided due to the situation and bowling attack.
“For this game, we thought he has got so much experience and has got a lot of runs as well, we wanted that left-right combo, Sarfaraz being Sarfaraz and with the quality he has got, we wanted him to have time. We saw what he could do with the bat. [on the batting order] It’s not a long-term view, we go with the flow and what we feel on that particular day, looking at the opposition, the bowling attack. We calculate everything and then go with the flow,” Rohit Sharma said during the post-match press conference.
I haven’t seen Sarfaraz Khan bat that much: Rohit Sharma
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also spoke about Sarfaraz Khan’s batting attack in first-class games. The opening batter reveals that he had just heard about Sarfaraz Khan scoring runs for Mumbai, but he never thought about it ahead of the third Test. Moreover, the top-order batter was seen lauding Sarfaraz Khan’s ability to score runs.
“I haven’t seen Sarfaraz bat that much. But all the people I’ve heard from, the players who are from Mumbai, (that) he’s made runs in a lot of difficult situations for Mumbai. He’s hungry for runs and for the last 4-5 years, he’s continuously made runs in domestic cricket, so (that means) he’s doing something good,” he added.
