‘This is a good opportunity for the young players…’ – Vikram Rathour opines on youngsters’ performance in India vs England Test series

Team India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour heaps praise on young batters with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan for taking the key responsibility in the ongoing Test series against England. Notably, Team India locked horns against the visiting sides in the fourth Test match in Ranchi, and they are 2-1 in the five matches of the Test series.

However, Vikram Rathour feels that the side needed just a great start to have a blast in the game, regardless of the pressure in the situation. The former India opener lauds the young cricketers in the team while saying that they have much intelligence in the game. The 54-year-old cricketer also talks about the importance of domestic cricket to being the Test player for the national side.

“Once you get to this level and start playing Test cricket, everything said and done, there are nerves, there is some pressure, but if you get a good start, nothing better than that. And the young players who have come into the team have got a good start and it feels good. They have cricket intelligence in them, which is again a great sign. It’s a great message, coming from Indian domestic cricket, that the new players are cricket smart,” Vikram Rathour said in the pre-match conference.

There is always a belief that our domestic cricket is so strong: Vikram Rathour

Vikram Rathour also talks about the omission of a few big names with the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami in the fourth Test match but feels that it’s a great opportunity for the youngsters to show their talent and seize their place in the squad.

“It is tough to miss key players, it’s better for the team if everyone is available but a series like this is a good opportunity for the young players, who have played on these wickets to establish themselves. There is always belief that our domestic cricket is so strong, you are pretty assured that whoever comes has come through after doing good,” he added further.
