‘The stuff which is being spoken about him….- Alastair Cook lauds Joe Root’s masterclass knock in 4th Test vs India
Former English cricketer Alastair Cook heaps praise on star batter Joe Root after his magnificent tonne on Day 1 of the fourth Test match in Ranchi. Notably, the great batter had hammered unbeaten 111 runs from 244 balls, featuring nine boundaries and stitching the great stand with star batter Ollie Robinson, and will be looking to post the great total after the first inning.
However, Alastair Cook feels that English star batter Joe Root has played beautifully and looks very different in the ongoing series, which is full of control. The former batting legend feels that the great batter has played a very effective knock to help his side stand in a dominant position.
“Root has played beautifully today. It has been a very different Root to what we have seen in the series, one who has been playing with control…It has been very un-Bazball, for those who like the entertainment, but very effective,” Alastair Cook said on TNT Sports.
We were witnessing a kind of masterclass 100 from Joe Root: Alastair Cook
Alastair Cook feels that this great century milestone is also crucial for Joe Root, as he wasn’t able to play an impactful knock in the first three Tests. Moreover, the former left-handed batter also talks about the shot played by Joe Root in the ongoing Test series. The 2019 ODI World Cup-winning skipper feels Joe Root’s innings will give them hope to win the fourth Test match to level up the series by 2-2.
“We were witnessing a kind of masterclass 100 from Joe Root…I know how much it means to him and how much it affects him when he’s not contributing. The stuff that is being spoken about him and some of the shots he’s played would really hurt him…He has scored so many runs, he is England’s best ever player and it hurts when you don’t contribute, when you think you should be doing,” he added further.
