‘This was that knock from Shubman Gill…’ – Aakash Chopra hails star batter after his magnificent batting in Ranchi Test
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has lauded star player Shubman Gill for his magnificent batting in the second innings of the fourth Test match against England in Ranchi. Notably, the batter hammered an unbeaten 52 runs from 124 balls, featuring two sixes, and shared the great stand with star batter Dhruv Jurel, who also hammered 39 runs to help his side win the game.
However, Aakash Chopra said that the wicket of Shubman Gill could have cost the game and must have given England a full chance to win the game. Notably, England were just five wickets away from winning the match, while India needed 72 runs to chase down the total. The well-renowned cricket commentator feels that Shubman Gill played an intentful knock, which makes him a very special batter.
“72 is a lot of runs. The game was absolutely hanging in the balance because one wicket there and England would have won the match. The match would have come towards India if there was a 40 to 45-run partnership. Shubman Gill has played a lot of good cricket. Till the two sixes in the end, he didn’t hit a single four. He was very good. Some knocks make you mature. You might not have scored a lot of runs in that knock but you do extremely well going forward. This was that knock from Shubman Gill,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is there at the top and Shubman Gill is there alongside him: Aakash Chopra
Chopra also lauded star batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also played a great knock in both innings to make sure India stood in the dominant position. Moreover, the 46-year-old cricketer feels that Team India’s future is in secure hands owing to batters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.
“You know that I rate him very highly. However, after watching this knock, the respect for him grows in your eyes. India’s future is secure. Yashasvi (Jaiswal) is there at the top and Shubman Gill is there alongside him. These are two quality Indian batters who are ready to fight,” he added further.
