‘I was not out’ – Prithvi Shaw after missing out on a well-deserved 400 against Assam in Ranji Trophy 2022-23

Mumbai star opener Prithvi Shaw stated that he was not out at 379 against Assam on day two of their Ranji Trophy game. Shaw played marvelous innings and scored his maiden triple-century in first-class cricket which also became the highest individual score in Indian Cricketing history.

He was given LBW against Assam spinner Riyan Parag in the 126th over of Mumbai’s first innings.”I wasn’t out and could have made 400,” Prithvi Shaw lamented after Day 2 in the Ranji Trophy.

The 23-year-old added that he may have gone on to score more than 400 runs as he was batting really well.

It feels really nice to bat with a player of his stature: Prithvi Shaw

“It feels really nice. I could have made that 400. I think I was batting really well but it was just a matter of time as big runs weren’t coming. I thought I should give myself more time out there in the middle, display patience, and the track needed that,” Prithvi explained.

Mumbai posted a mammoth total of 687 runs for the loss of four wickets before declaring their innings and asked Assam batters to bat later on Day 2. They were able to pick only one wicket in their 39 overs of bowling.

“The pitch did offer seam movement at the beginning and then as the overs progressed, it started keeping low,” Shaw spoke about the conditions.

Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane also scored a crucial ton and was the second-highest scorer in his team as he scored 191 runs. Shaw uploaded his skipper’s innings and said that he was indebted to him.

“It feels really nice to bat with a player of his (Rahane’s) stature. Someone with so much of international experience. His mere presence around this Mumbai side lifts us up. I always try and learn when an international player comes and plays with us,” he said.

Shaw has been ignored for selection in the Indian team for a significant period of time now.
