‘Rohit ki chaatna band kab karega Gambhir’ – Fans rip apart Gautam Gambhir as he picks Rohit Sharma over ‘s***’ Ricky Ponting

One of the top white-ball batters of the current age is Rohit Sharma, the India skipper. However, it wasn’t until he began opening the innings for Team India that his career in white-ball cricket really took off.

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian batter, made a startling assertion about Rohit. He believes that Ricky Ponting, the former Australia captain, cannot be compared to the 35-year-old cricketer. Gambhir mentioned Ponting’s “s*** record” in sub-continental conditions to support his assertion.

“The surprising fact is that in the last four or five years he has gotten this many hundreds. Rohit Sharma before the last five-six years was not this consistent. He definitely got about 20 hundred in the last five-six-seven years. No, he is a better player than Ricky Ponting. Because Ricky has got a sh** record in the subcontinent,” Gambhir said on Star Sports’ Show Cricket Live, ahead of the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka on Thursday.

Sanjay Manjrekar, a fellow panellist and former India batter, was shocked by Gambhir’s remarks. “You missed that. Breaking news,” Manjrekar was heard saying to the host of the show.

For the record, out of his 30 ODI hundreds, Ponting only managed six—averaging 41—in the subcontinent. In contrast, Rohit has amassed 13 centuries outside of the subcontinent. Moreover, Rohit has the most double hundreds of any batter in ODIs with three.

Currently, in 237 games, Rohit has scored 29 hundred and 9537 runs at an average of about 49. Ponting, on the other hand, concluded with 13704 runs and 30 centuries in 375 games, scoring at a 42-run average.

In regards to Rohit’s century graph, Gambhir is correct. In fact, between 2017 and 2020, Rohit scored 19 ODI hundreds. In fact, he last scored a century against Australia in January 2020. He has been behind Ponting’s total by one century for nearly three years.
