‘Beta jab tu U19 me tha tera baap…’ – Pakistan pacer reveals heated exchange of words he had with Virat Kohli in 2015
The love affair between former India captain Virat Kohli and Pakistani bowlers is there for everyone to see with his sublime batting record against the opposition across formats. In his last encounter against Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup, Kohli solely led India to victory with an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls.
However, Kohli’s heated arguments with Pakistani fast bowlers have also made headlines lately. From Junaid Khan to Shaheen Afridi, all have been at the receiving end of this heat. Now, Sohail Khan another Pakistani fast bowler revealed a glimpse of the hostilities he received from Kohli in the 2015 World Cup.
Speaking with Nadir Ali’s podcast, Sohail revealed how Kohli charged at him during the match and how he was forced to make a rather bitter remark. Remembering the incident, Sohail said, “Virat came. He said to me ‘Aap cricket mein abhi aaye hain. And itni baatein karte ho (You’ve just arrived and you speak so much).”
“I was a Test cricketer back then. I played Test matches in 2006-07. Then in between I endured a troubled knee that forced me out of action,” explained Sohail. In reply to Kohli, Pakistan pacer said, “Beta jab tu Under-19 khel raha tha na, tera baap Test cricketer tha’ (Son, when you were playing Under-19 for India, your father [referring to himself] was a Test player). That’s how I said it. Then if you see carefully, Misbah intervened and he got angry at me. He asked me to keep quiet,” Sohail further added.
“I respect him now”, Says Sohail Khan about Virat Kohli
Speaking further about Kohli Sohail said, “The Kohli episode is water under the bridge. Witnessing his rise to become one of the world’s greatest batters, I respect him today because he is a great batter, amazing.”
Sohail Khan has represented Pakistan in 9 Tests, 13 ODIs, and five T20Is. The 38-year-old pacer has claimed 51 international wickets in his brief career. Sohail lastly represented Pakistan almost six years ago in September 2017. However, he has not officially retired yet.
