After defeating Australia in the first match by an inning and 132 runs, India locked horns against the visitors at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. The match kicked off on February 17. Kangaroos skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first. Men in Blue brought in Shreyas Iyer in place of Suryakumar Yadav whereas for the Australian side, Travis Head and Matthew Kuhnemann came into the side in place of Matt Renshaw and Scott Boland respectively.

Australian openers, David Warner and Usman Khwaja, made a positive note as they both built up a partnership of 50 runs for the opening wicket before Warner was dismissed by right-arm seamer Mohammad Shami when he was at the score of 15.

After Warner’s wicket, right-hand batter Marnus Labuschange came onto the crease and built up a partnership along with Khawaja. The duo stitched a 41-run partnership before Labuschange was dismissed to veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He got back to the pavilion after scoring just 18 runs which included four boundaries.

Usman Khawaja – A lone warrior for team Australia

Two balls later, Ashwin dismissed former Australia skipper Steven Smith for a duck. Australia’s both top batters fell to Ashwin in the same over. After the fall of two quick wickets, left-hand batter Travis Head came onto the crease to accompany Khawaja but was sent back to the pavillion after scoring just 12 runs which included one four and one six each.

For team India, the pick of the bowlers have been Shami and Ashwin. Both of them took two wickets each.  At the time of writing, Ashwin has recorded bowling figures of 14-4-37-2, while Shami has the bowling figures of 9-3-41-2.

After the end of 40 overs, the Australian side are 146 runs for four. Peter Handscomb is batting on 18 runs which includes three boundaries, while Khawaja is batting on 69 runs runs which includes 10 boundaries and a six.
