‘Great dinner, great conversations and a great evening’ – Sunil Gavaskar celebrates India’s victory with his 1983 World Cup-winning teammates
Former India opener, Sunil Gavaskar celebrated India’s second victory against Australia on Sunday, February 19, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with his 1983 World Cup-winning teammates at Kapil Dev’s residence in Delhi. Gavaskar posted a picture on his Instagram handle, where he was seen with former cricketers like Ravi Shastri, Sunil Valson, Madan, and Kirti Azad along with Kapil Dev.
Gavaskar is considered one of the best Indian batters in the world, but he didn’t have a great outing in the 1983 World Cup. He was able to score only 59 runs at an average of less than 10. He got retired from international cricket in 1987 and now he is working as a commentator. His recent project is the ongoing four-match Test series between India and Australia which is also known as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in which team India is leading the series 2-0.
“Wonderful to catch up with the Delhi boys of the ‘83 World Cup team at skipper Kapil’s home. Celebrated India’s win in the Delhi Test. Great dinner, great conversations, and a great evening,” Gavaskar captioned the photo on Instagram.

Can India repeat the 1983 World Cup-winning side’s legacy
The Men in Blue have the perfecct oppertunity to clinch the 50-over World Cup title once again after a gap of 12 years, which would be also after 40 year’s when India won their maiden World Cup back in 1983. India will host this year’s World Cup which will be played later this month in October and November. When the last time India hosted the ODI World Cup back in 2011, India clinched the title under the leadership of one of the successful skippers of the World, MS Dhoni.
Seeing Rohit Sharma’s side’s recent form, if they end up winning the title won’t be a surprise for anyone. It will be interesting to see how the Men in Blue play on their home ground as they attempt to snap a twelve-year trophy drought. After losing in the quarterfinals in each of the last two World Cups, they will also be aiming to win it this time around.
