Arjun Tendulkar smashes century on Ranji Trophy debut, replicates Sachin Tendulkar’s feat

Arjun Tendulkar brought up his century for Goa on his Ranji Trophy debut on Wednesday to emulate a feat achieved by his father, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Arjun, who shifted his team from Mumbai to Goa to get more opportunities, slammed his maiden first-class century on Day 2 of the match against Rajasthan. The visitors chose to put the hosts in to bat at home after winning the toss, and the batting side lose a few early blows.

In order to restart the innings, Suyash Prabhudesai and Snehal Kauthankar (59) shared a century stand. A couple of wickets fell and then came Arjun to the crease to take the Rajasthan bowling on the radar. Both Arjun and Suyash smashed centuries and took Goa to a strong position on Day 2 of the match. The youngster’s father, Sachin Tendulkar also did the same thing on his Ranji Trophy debut back in 1998, when he struck a century against Gujarat.

Goa 493/8 at the end of Day Two:

The master blaster, later on, went on to become the best batter of his generation in international cricket. He, currently, holds the record for most runs in Tests and ODIs and is also the only cricketer to have scored 100 international centuries.

Arjun came to bat at number seven and was bowled out for 120 at the Goa Cricket Association ground in Porvorim. The left-hander smashed 16 fours and two sixes in his 207-ball knock. Arjun made his Indian Under-19 debut, followed by which he was bought by the Mumbai franchise at the Indian T20 League. Although, he did not make his debut for the team.

He moved to Goa from Mumbai this season. In cricket-crazy India, his father, who retired in 2013 after amassing 100 centuries, continues to be revered as a god. Goa, at the end of Day two, has scored 493 runs with the loss of eight wickets. The top performers for the batting team were Prabhudesai, who scored 212 runs with 29 fours, whereas the young Tendulkar scored 120 runs with 16 fours and two sixes.
