‘Women’s T20 League will challenge Women’s Big Bash as best Women’s T20 League’ – Star Australia batter’s big statement on new inaugural T20 League
According to Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy, the newly established Women’s T20 League in India will compete with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for the title of greatest 20-20 league for women’s cricket. Healy captains the UP franchise in the five-team tournament, which began on Saturday, 15 years after the famous Indian T20 League for men was introduced.
As some female cricketers received the highest wages of their careers during the auction, when teams had $1.45 million each to spend on players, the Women’s T20 League is anticipated to revolutionize the women’s game. Healy stated that the WBBL, an eight-team league in Australia, would need to make sure it is attractive enough to draw the finest players in light of Australia’s supremacy in women’s cricket.
Watch the best players in the world do battle: Alyssa Healy
“The WBBL has been the envy of women’s cricket for eight years now, but there’s no denying the Women’s T20 League will put pressure on our domestic competition. It’s not all about money, but players in the Women’s T20 League are earning more for a three-week competition than they are playing for their country for 12 months of the year,” Healy wrote in her column on Cricket Australia’s website on Wednesday.
“For the WBBL to keep pace with the Women’s T20 League and retain its status as the best domestic competition in the world, we need to make sure it’s lucrative and exciting enough for the best players to keep making the trip to Australia. I feel strongly that the WBBL should be about entertainment: our showpiece competition where fans pack out the hill and watch the best players in the world do battle,” the Australian opener added.
On Tuesday, February 7’s fixture, the Delhi franchise concluded their innings at 211/4 with some fireworks from Jess Jonassen, who hammered unbeaten 42 runs off only 20 balls while hitting three fours and three sixes. This is their second 200+ total in a row in the ongoing league. In response, UP got an interesting star but failed to capitalize on it and succumbed to the amazing bowling performance from Jonassen.
