‘It will be travesty if he gets benched…’, former India batter Aakash Chopra backs young player ahead of 4th Test against
As India will face Australia in the fourth Test of The Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Men in Blue will expect its batters to perform better. Despite a humiliating defeat in the previous game India is currently leading in the series by 2-1 and will look to bounce back.
However, Ahead of the game, India could make some changes, especially in the nonperforming batting order. Wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat is one of those batters whose performance has been a concern for the team. According to practice sessions, India is likely to drop him and play Ishan Kishan. Although speaking on the same Former India batter Aakash Chopra said that it will be a ‘travesty’ to drop Bharat for lack of runs.
In a Tweet Chopra said, KS Bharat, has been nothing less than outstanding behind the stumps. Scored valuable runs in the second innings of the Delhi Test too. It will be a travesty if he gets benched for not contributing more with the bat…in a team where the main batters are underperforming.”
“Unfair to judge him” – Captain Rohit Sharma also backed KS Bharat
Amid the speculations over KS Bharat’s place in the playing xi India skipper Rohit Sharma backed the young wicketkeeper-batter and said that it is unfair to judge a batter on these pitches.
Speaking with Reporters on the eve of the fourth Test Rohit said, “He (Bharat) has spent a lot of time in domestic cricket, India A,… So, it will be slightly unfair to judge him on these kinds of wickets. Especially if someone is making their debut, you have got to give him enough room or innings for him to set himself up for a big score.”
Notably, India will try to win the game to qualify for the finals of the Test Championship. Rohit and co will try to book their place at the consecutive Test Championship finals to end the Trophy drought.
