‘Kangaroo ko nani yaad dila di’ – Fans react as India holds an upper hand after end of play on Day 4 of last BGT Test against Australia

India are playing the fourth and final Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad. For the third time in the series, the visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. The Aussies made no changes to their playing XI from the third Test, while the hosts brought in Mohammed Shami in place of Mohammad Siraj, who has not performed that well in this series.

Batting first, the Aussies slammed 480 runs in the first innings. For the team, the likes of Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green scored a century each. Also, notable contributions from the likes of Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy helped the team reach such a competitive total.

For the hosts, the pick of the bowlers was veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who snapped six wickets in his spell of 47.2 overs. He conceded only 91 runs in his spell and bowled 15 maiden overs. Shami grabbed two wickets, while one wicket each was snapped by the left-arm spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill led the charge

In response of Australia’s mammoth total of 480, India scored 571 runs before losing their nine wickets just before the end of play on Day 4. Star India batter, Shreyas Iyer was having problems in his back and, hence, he didn’t came to bat. Former India skipper Virat Kohli and opener Shubman Gill led the charge for the Indian batting line-up.

A marvellous century was scored by both Kohli and Gill. Kohli scored 186 runs off 364 balls, which included 15 fours. On the other hand, the 23-year-old scored 128 runs off 235 balls with 12 boundaries and a six.

For the visitors, three wickets each were grabbed by off-spin duo of Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy. Both the spinner bowled the majority of the overs. Lyon bowled 65 overs, while, on the other hand, Murphy bowled bowled 45.5 overs. One wicket each was also snapped by seamer Mitchell Starc and young Matthew Kuhnemann.

Before end of Day 4, Australia batted for 6 overs and scored 3 runs. Left hand batter, Travis Head is batting on three along with Kuhnemann, who is yet to open his account, having faced 18 balls so far. The last day of the the Test match would be interesting to watch as both teams will go all out  in order to draw the game or to win the game.
