‘Vadapav hi panoti hai” – Fans troll Rohit Sharma as India lose second ODI against Australia

After winning the first match by five wickets, India locked horns against Australia in the second ODI of the series on Sunday, March 19 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Vishakapatnam. Australia chased down a mere total of 118 runs in just 11 overs with 10 wickets in hand. Mitchell Starc was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance with the ball.

Kangaroo’s skipper Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bowl first. Both teams made two changes in their squad. The Men in Blue brought in Rohit Sharma and Axar Patel in place of Ishan Kishan and Shardul Thakur, respectively, whereas the Aussies included Alex Carey and Nathan Ellis in place of Josh Inglis and Glen Maxwell.

Batting first, India was bundled out for 117 runs in exactly 26 overs. Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli was the highest run-getter for the team with 31 runs from 35 balls with four fours. Axar Patel also played an unbeaten knock of 29 runs off 29 balls with one four and two sixes.

Australian openers finish the job for their side

The pick of the bowler for Australia was Starc, who grabbed a fifer in his spell of eight overs and conceded 53 runs and bowled one maiden over. The other seamer Sean Abbott snapped three wickets in his spell of six overs and gave away only 23 runs. Ellis also bagged two wickets in his spell of five overs and conceded only 13 runs.

While chasing a small target of 118 runs, the Men in Yellow openers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head took their side to victory on the last ball of the 11th over with 10 wickets in hand. Marsh scored an unbeaten knock of  66 runs from  36 balls, which included six fours and six sixes, whereas Head played an unbeaten knock of 51 runs off 30 balls with 10 fours.

“I have learnt the trade over the years. My rhythm has been good for a few weeks now. Last couple of nights, I got the ball to shape in the air and do a little bit off the wicket. Feeling in a good place, and hopefully, I can continue. It’s a role I play, being more attacking and bowling slightly fuller than some of the other guys,” Starc was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.

“I can be slightly more expensive, but that brings in all the dismissals more, that’s the role I play. My conversations are a little different compared to someone like Cam Green. Both the decks have helped the seamers. There was movement in the air in Mumbai as well. My game plan is to attack the stumps and bring in all modes of dismissal into play,” the former Bangalore franchise player added.
