Deepak Chahar gives bold statement regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement from the Indian T20 League
The excitement among Dhoni’s followers in Chennai is unmatched. In preparation for the forthcoming Indian T20 League (ITL) 2023 season, the members of the Chennai franchise have begun to assemble in the capital of Tamil Nadu. Gujarat, the defending champions, will face Chennai, the four-time champions, in the first game of the season. Dhoni and his teammates have begun practising in the nets at Chepauk in preparation for the tantalising match.
What did Deepak Chahar say about the retirement of Mahendra Singh Dhoni from the Indian T20 League?
Deepak Chahar, the prime pacer of the Chennai squad gave an update about Thala’s retirement and that was the answer everyone was waiting for. He said, “No one has said that this would be his final year. At least, he hasn’t. Hopefully, he will play more. We don’t know any such thing, we want him to play as much as he can.”
The right-arm swing bowler then further stated that Dhoni knows when to do the right thing. Chahar added, “He knows when to retire, we saw it when he did in Tests and international cricket. No one else knows. I just hope he continues to play, it’s a privilege to play under him. It has been a dream to play with him. He’s in good touch as well, you will see that when he bats in the IPL this year.”
Fans and experts have been curious about the former Indian captain’s future ever since his international career came to an end. When asked if 2020 will be his final season, broadcaster Harsha Bhogle received a sensational “definitely not” as his response. He again led the Chennai side to victory in the title game the following year, but the team suffered a setback in 2022 when the competition expanded to ten teams.
As the tournament would be contested in 12 different cities, Dhoni confirmed last year that he will indeed return in 2023 to sincerely thank supporters across India. There is no confirmation as of yet whether this will be the final season of Thala in the bright yellow colours of the Chennai franchise.
