‘Lady Superman’ – Fans react as Jemimah Rodrigues grabs a stunner against Mumbai in Women’s T20 League

In the 18th match of the Women’s T20 League, the Mumbai franchise locked horns against the Delhi franchise at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai on Monday, March 20. The Delhi side won the match by nine wickets and Marizanne Kapp was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant bowling performance as she picked two wickets and gave away just 13 runs in her spell of four overs.

Batting first, the Mumbai franchise had a bad start to their innings. They lost the first four wickets at a score of just 21 runs in the first seven overs. They lost the important wickets of Yahika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt at a score of 6, Healey Mathews at 10, and Amelia Kerr at a score of 21.

In the powerplay, star India batter, Jemimmah Rodrigues took a stunning catch diving to her right, on the bowling of India veteran seamer Shikha Pandey. She dove at the perfect time to take a low catch to dismiss their opener Mathews on the third ball of the fourth over.

For the Mumbai franchise, the top scorer was their all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar, who scored 26 runs off 19 balls, with three fours and a six. Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and England all-rounder Issy Wong also scored crucial 23 runs each for their side.

For the Delhi franchise, two wickets each were taken by Kapp, Shikha, and Jess Jonassen, and one wicket was taken by right-arm seamer Arundhati Reddy, who conceded only 10 runs in her spell of 3 overs.

Delhi, while chasing a small target of 110 runs, finished the match within 10 overs. The opener Shefali Verma and Lanning started off the innings with an aggressive approach. They both together put up a quickfire partnership of 56 runs off just 23 balls before Shefali was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 33 runs off just 15 balls, which included six fours and a six.

After the opener’s wicket, Alice Capey came to bat and she along with the skipper finished things for the Delhi side. Lanning played an unbeaten knock of 32 runs from 22 balls with 4 fours and a six, and on the other hand, Capsey played a quickfire knock of unbeaten 38 runs of just 17 balls with one four and five sixes.
