‘Khush toh aise ho raha hai jaise match issi ne jitaya ho’ – Fans react as Avesh Khan gets reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct

After the team’s stunning last-over victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Monday, April 10, fast bowler Avesh Khan of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was fined for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct. On the same day that RCB received a penalty for continuing their slow over-rate, Avesh acknowledged the Level 1 offence.

After losing the last encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a huge deficit of 81 runs, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the M. Chinnaswammy Stadium in Bangalore. LSG won the match by one wicket and Nicholas Pooran was awarded the Player of the Match for his extraordinary innings.

RCB finished their innings at 212 runs with the loss of only two wickets. The fifties were scored by the top three batters, Virat Kohli, Faf Du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell.  The visitors chased down the mammoth total of 213 runs on the last ball of the match. The highest scorer for LSG was Marcus Stoinis, who scored 65 runs off 30 balls, which included six fours and two sixes. Pooran scored a match-winning knock of 62 runs from just 19 balls with four fours and seven sixes.

Like his LSG teammates, Avesh was fired up, and after the nail-biting finish, he let off heat by throwing his helmet to the ground and celebrating the victory, which violated the Apex Cricket Council’s code of conduct.

Faf Du Plessis fined for slow over-rate

“Lucknow Super Giants’ Avesh Khan has been reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct. Mr Avesh admitted to level 1 offence 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” an IPL statement asserted.

RCB skipper Du Plessis was penalized Rs 12 lakh for his slow overrate during the exciting LSG chase. Only 4 fielders were beyond the 30-yard circle in the last over as a result of RCB missing the mark by an over. In the IPL 2022, this was RCB’s first over-rate offence.

For overs that are bowled beyond 85 minutes from the start of the innings, the new regulation, which went into effect in January 2022, requires the fielding team to have just four fielders outside the circle rather than five.

Here’s how fans reacted to Avesh Khan’s celebration:
