‘Hum Jeet Gaye’ – Fans react as Kolkata Knight Riders defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 runs in IPL 2023 clash

In the 47th fixture of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locked horns against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Hyderabad on Thursday, May 4. Knight Riders won the match by five runs and Varun Chakravarthy was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance.

If we talk about the encounter, KKR skipper, Nitish Rana won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors while batting first, scored a total of 171 runs with the loss of nine wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer of the side was Rinku Singh who scored 46 runs off 35 balls with four fours and a six whereas on the other hand, Rana scored 42 runs from 31 balls which included three fours and three sixes in his innings.

For the home side, the pick of the bowler was Marco Jansen and T Natarajan who snapped two wickets in their respective spells where they conceded 24 runs and 30 runs respectively. One wicket each was grabbed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Karthik Tyagi, Aiden Markram and Mayank Markhande in their respective spells where they conceded 33 runs, 30 runs, 24 runs and 29 runs respectively.

While chasing a target of 172 runs, SRH lost four wickets at a score of 54 runs. The batters such as Mayank Aggarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma once again failed to score the runs.

Then after the fall of four wickets, Heinrich Klassen along with skipper, Markram build a partnership of 70 runs before Klassen was dismissed after scoring 36 runs off 20 balls with three sixes and a four. The SRH skippper was also dismissed after scoring 41 runs which included four boundaries.

The star performer for KKR was Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur who bagged two wickets each in their respective spells of three overs where they conceded 32 runs and 23 runs respectively. One wicket each was taken by Harshit Rana, Andre Russell, Anukul Roy, and Varun Chakravarthy.
