‘Bas run bana le, title mat jeetiyo’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli becomes first player to score 7000 runs in Indian Premier League

In the 50th fixture of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League 2023, Delhi Capitals locked horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, in New Delhi on Saturday, May 6. The former India skipper completed his 7000 runs in the cash-rich league in this match.

He became the first batter to reach 7000 runs in the IPL, and Kohli secured his place in history. The milestone was reached by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter during the league stage match of the IPL 2023 against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitely Stadium.

At this location, a pavilion is named in tribute to Kohli, who also received another accolade at his home field. Unexpectedly, in IPL 2008, DC had the choice to select Kohli but did not. He challenged the franchise that passed him by for 15 years before achieving the enormous milestone.

Virat Kohli completed 6000 runs in IPL 2021

Before the start of the DC game, Kohli was 12 runs shy of reaching 7000 runs in the T20 league. He began his innings with a boundary off Khaleel Ahmed and finished the 7000th run in the league in the second over off Axar Patel by hitting a four.

At this point, Kohli has over 7000 runs in 233 games. He has a strike rate of more than 129 and an average of 36. Five centuries in all are included in Kohli’s total. In the 2016 IPL, he scored four of these five hundred. In the eighth season of the competition, the former RCB skipper was in the best shape of his life and amassed 973 runs.

In the T20 league, Kohli completed 6000 runs in 2021, making him the first batter to do so. He passed Suresh Raina to become the second batsman in IPL history to reach 5000 runs. On the list of batters with the most IPL runs, Shikhar Dhawan comes in after Kohli. The skipper of the Punjab Kings has 6536 runs in 213 games.

David Warner holds the third rank with 6189 runs. Warner has taken part in 172 games. The fourth and fifth positions are held by Suresh Raina (5528) and Rohit Sharma (6063), respectively. Raina is no longer playing in the T20 competition.
