‘Ye saal bhi bina trophy jeete nikal jayega’ – Fans react as Royal Challengers Bangalore lose to Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in IPL 2023 clash
In the 50th fixture of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) locked horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, in New Delhi on Saturday, May 6. Capitals won the match by seven wickets in hand and star England batter, Philp Salt was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant batting performance.
RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors, while batting first, scored a total of 181 runs with the loss of four wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer for the side was Mahipal Lomror, who scored an unbeaten knock of 54 runs off 29 balls with six fours and three sixes in his innings. Former India skipper, Virat Kohli also scored a crucial fifty and completed his 7000 runs in IPL.
Delhi Capitals batters guided their side to victory
For the hosts, the pick of the bowler was star Australia all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh, who snapped two wickets in his spell of three overs where he conceded 21 runs. One wicket each was grabbed by Khaleel Ahed and Mukesh Kumar in their respective spell, where they conceded 45 runs and 30 runs, respectively.
DC, while chasing a total of 182 runs, their openers, David Warner and Philp Salt, built a quickfire partnership of 60 runs in just 31 balls before Warner was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 22 runs from 14 balls, which included three fours and a six on the bowling of his counterpart Josh Hazelwood.
After Warner’s wicket, Marsh came to the crease but he was sent back to the dressing room after scoring 26 runs from 17 balls, which included three fours and a six in his innings. Salt played a match-winning knock of 87 runs from 45 balls with eight fours and six sixes in his innings. South African batter, Rilee Rossouw played an unbeaten knock of 35 runs off 22 balls with three sixes and a four.
