‘It seems like that left-hander will be….’ – Aakash Chopra makes bold verdict on India’s batting line-up for T20 World Cup 2024
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels star cricketer Rinku Singh will be able to secure a place in the top six positions in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is all set to commence on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. Notably, Team India has a plethora of left-handed batters in their camp, including the likes of Ishan Kishan, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Aakash Chopra feels that there will be only one left-handed batter in the upcoming marquee event, despite a plethora of them playing good cricket against the Afghanistan side. The former India opener feels Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will open, and then Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya will come down ahead of Rinku Singh, who is the only left-handed batter in the squad.
“I feel left-handers won’t be there in the World Cup at all. When you select your top six batters, you will get at the most one left-hander. Only one, I am not kidding. If Rohit and Virat open, and Suryakumar Yadav comes at No. 3, you don’t have a keeper in the top three. Jitesh is the keeper down the order, he is a right-hander. If Hardik Pandya comes at No. 4, he is a right-hander. Only one left-hander will come in the middle,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
It will either be Ravindra Jadeja, or Rinku Singh in the middle: Aakash Chopra
Meanwhile, the cricketer-turned-analyst feels Team India failed to make space for left-handed batters in the squad due to the tough competition between the players. The well-renowned cricket commentator says that there might be tough competition between Ravindra Jadeja and Rinku Singh as the left-handed batters.
“At this point, it seems like that left-hander will be Rinku. You might have one or two more left-handers in the squad. Despite the preparations we did for the last year or so to play left-handers, we won’t be able to create a place for those left-handers. When it comes to left-handed batters, it will either be Ravindra Jadeja, or Rinku Singh in the middle,” he added further.
