Aakash Chopra shares his insights on opening batter combination for India in T20 World Cup 2024

Team India recently won the T20I series against Australia by 4-1 on December 3 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Notably, the home team just lost one game in the five-match T20I series and went on to win the rest four games. However, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has opened up about the opening batter combination for the T20 World Cup 2024 after India’s win over the new ODI World Cup 2023 champions.

The well-renowned cricket commentator feels that the left and right-hand combinations will play a great role in the powerplays and help India post a massive total with this combination. In addition, the former India opener also talks about two right-handed batters in the game, which may be Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma or Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rohit Sharma.

“I am thinking about a left-right combination. I feel it has more importance in T20s because you have only six (powerplay) overs and you have to maximize them. There is no doubt you can have two right-handers, Shubman (Gill) and Rohit (Sharma) have been playing together. Rohit and Ruturaj can also play together,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

The cricketer-tuned analyst believes that there is a slight advantage if one has a right- and left-hand combination. Moreover, the 46-year-old cricketer personally feels that left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal can get a chance in the 2024 World Cup if he has the best upcoming edition of the IPL like last year.

“There is no problem with that but there is an advantage with left-right. In ODIs, you have time, you can play one or two overs cautiously. Then you have brighter chances to post a huge total. So Yashasvi looks slightly ahead to me. However, it (the T20 World Cup) is still six months away. You need an extremely good IPL. If that is not good, all the talk will be worthless. I personally feel Yashasvi Jaiswal,” he added further.
