‘How will it work out if only aim in bilateral series is to win?’ – Aakash Chopra questions on India’s bowling attack after T20I series win over Australia

Team India won the bilateral series against Australia by 4-1 on December 3 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium. Notably, the hosts won the first two and last two T20Is, while they just lost the third game, which helped them clinch the series. However, despite the win, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned why the all-rounders didn’t get the chance in the whole series.

The well-renowned cricket commentator feels why India is not giving chances to Shivam Dube, Venkatesh Iyer, and Vijay Shankar after all-rounder Hardik Pandya got injured. In addition, the former India opener didn’t understand the logic of management’s decision not to use all-rounders in the game. Notably, there were no bowlers from the top 6 and no batters in position 8 from India’s camp during the series against Australia.

“What you are saying is absolutely correct. How will it work out if your only aim in bilateral series is to win? It won’t work out as you are not trying anyone. In fact, it was my problem in this series (vs Australia), you didn’t have a single bowler in the top six and a batter at No. 8. What is the logic behind this and we are talking about a scenario when Rohit (Sharma), (Virat) Kohli, Shubman (Gill) and KL Rahul are not there. It is a problem in my opinion because IPL will not do this job now.”

Why will Shivam Dube, Venkatesh Iyer and Vijay Shankar get to bowl when you can play six bowlers?: Aakash Chopra

The 46-year-old cricketer feels that Shivam Dube, Vijay Shankar, and Venkatesh Iyer won’t be getting the chance to bowl in the IPL either due to the impact players rule. Moreover, the Agra-born cricketer further emphasised that the team should use all-rounders in the game.

“IPL could have done this job earlier. It’s not going to do it now. Let’s make peace with it that once the Impact Player rule has come, why will Shivam Dube, Venkatesh Iyer and Vijay Shankar get to bowl when you can play six bowlers?,” he added further.
