Aakash Chopra slams Delhi Capitals for their performances in IPL 2023, makes huge claims on their future
Delhi Capitals (DC) can essentially say farewell to their chances of making the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs this year, according to former India opener Aakash Chopra. At the beginning of the competition, David Warner and the company lost to the Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets against Delhi on Tuesday, April 11. This was their fourth straight loss. They failed to stop Rohit Sharma and company from winning off the final ball, which set them a 173-run target.
Aakash Chopra while speaking on his YouTube channel spoke about how the Delhi team is almost out of the race playoffs. He said, “Delhi – four losses in four matches. It is almost confirmed that this team is not going to qualify. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw were playing well at the start. David Warner’s story is that he has been playing very well for a long time, but the question is whether David Warner is playing well.”
He also questioned David Warner’s form and strike rate while batting for Delhi Capitals. He said, “He is scoring runs, he has scored three fifties in four matches, but he hasn’t hit even one six thus far. He is a player who has hit a six in every 20 balls he has played in this tournament’s history. He has played nearly 200 balls here but has not hit a six till now. It is very unlike David Warner.”
Axar Patel who played a brilliant knock yesterday night against Mumbai Indians in their 2023 IPL encounter has been in the debate for sometime now. Aakash Chopra then questioned Delhi Capitals management on why they were keeping Axar till the end. He said, “Prithvi Shaw got out at the other end and then everyone got out one after the other. Then came Axar Patel. That is a big question for Delhi – why don’t you play Axar up the order?”
