AB De Villiers’ blunt verdict on Rohit Sharma’s super over controversy in 3rd T20I vs Afghanistan
Team India recently won the three matches of the T20I series against Afghanistan on January 17 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. However, the hosts had created a huge controversy owing to Rohit Sharma’s batting in super overs in the third T20I for the Afghanistan side. Meanwhile, South African cricketer AB de Villiers has shared his views about two super overs, which were quite shocking for him.
The legendary cricketer revealed that one can’t come to bat in a double super over if he gets the chance in the super overs. Notably, Rohit Sharma batted in the super over and retired hurt before batting in the double super over as well, which created massive controversy and sparked debate among fans and experts. In addition, the wicketkeeper batter also talks about the strong possibility of such an incident in the game in India.
“Double Super Over unbelievable (smiles). You can’t bat again if you are declared out in the first super over. I think maybe they will claim that he was retired hurt due to an injury and maybe it was a scoring mistake to show him out,” AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
You need to be a consistent player who is always trying to win games for your team: AB de Villiers
Meanwhile, AB de Villiers heaps praise on star batter Rinku Singh, who showed his calmness in the third T20I despite India being reduced to 22/4. The left-handed batter hammered an unbeaten 69 runs from 37 balls to help Indi post the great total after the middle order faltered. In addition, the cricketer-turned-analyst calls him a consistent player who makes sure India wins the game.
“It was just incredible. It is what IPL is all about, and that’s what I am excited about SA20, a platform for youngsters and people we haven’t heard about. Rinku is a fantastic player, and a match-winner, and it is good to see him become consistent as well. You need to be a consistent player who is always trying to win games for your team,” he added further.
