‘It’s very reasonable and normal for him to be tired….’ – AB de Villiers on Virat Kohli skipping white-ball series of South Africa tour

The Indian Cricket Board has announced the squad of Team India for the South Africa tour on November 30. Notably, Virat Kohli’s name has been available for the two Test matches as he has opted to take a break from the T20Is and ODIs. However, the batting stalwart didn’t play a single T20I game after his side lost the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against England.

Speaking of which, former South African cricketer AB de Villiers feels Virat Kohli will play ODIs and Test cricket. However, the legendary cricketer backs Virat Kohli for his break and affirms that it’s normal to have a break after relentlessly playing cricket. In addition, the former batting legend feels the South Africa series is very crucial for the 35-year-old cricketer during the final phase of his career.

“I hope he continues to play ODIs and Tests. I’m sure he has got a plan in place. It’s very reasonable and normal for him to be tired, to feel like it’s time for him to unfold that final chapter in a way. He’s been incredible to watch and we all want to see a little bit more of him. The South Africa series is important to him, and he might play a few, rest and sit out a few and find a way to manage himself leading up to the end of his career,” AB de Villiers said.

Virat Kohli found a way to master his own game: AB de Villers

AB de Villers also spoke up about the fantastic time he had with Virat Kohli during the franchise cricket and opened up about their fantastic partnerships for RCB. In addition, the wicketkeeper batter called former India skipper Virat Kohli a fantastic cricketer, with hope that he would continue to play for a long time in his career.

“At a very early stage, Virat found a way to master his own game, understand what works for him and he has taken that into the highest-pressure moments. It’s a privilege to have shared the dressing room with him, partnerships with him and some incredible moments with him. He’s a fantastic player and long may that continue,” he added further.
