‘Agar apne career ko sambhaala, toh…’ – Former Indian batter makes big prediction about Shubman Gill’’s career

India’s emerging batter Shubman Gill has once again impressed everyone with his batting prowess in the ongoing fourth Test between India and Australia. The 23-year-old scored his second Test century as he got out after scoring 128 runs off 235 balls putting India in a commendable position against the visitors.

Gill was benched for the first two Tests as KL Rahul opened the innings with the skipper Rohit Sharma. But continuous failures from Rahul made the Indian team management to give Gill a chance for the Indore Test. However, the young batter couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity given to him. But in Ahmedabad, he once again has shown why he is considered the future superstar of Indian cricket.

Impressed with Gill’s batting and excellent shot selection at the Narendra Modi stadium, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar made a big prediction about his future. Gavaskar praised him for his solid defence and stated that he could score 8000-10000 runs in his career.

The way he bends forward, even against Mitchell Starc…: Gavaskar

“He has a lot of time. When he plays a defensive shot, the way he bends forward, even against Mitchell Starc… he presents a straight face of the bat and plays a forward defence, it was so pleasing to see. It shows that he has confidence. He doesn’t only play on the back foot. His foot moves forward and he has a solid defense, not just a solid attack. And in Test cricket, you need that,” said Gavaskar during the conversation with Star Sports.

“Shuffling back and forth against pace bowlers isn’t very easy. But he picks the lines and lengths really well. Kisi bhi ballebaaz ke paas agar time ho, usne agar apne career ko sambhaala, toh aage jaake 8-10,000 run aaram se kar lega (If a batter has time, if he keeps his career in the right direction, he can easily score 8-10,000 runs in Tests),” he further added.

Gill has shown tremendous form in the past few months for India. The 23-year-old scored his maiden Test ton in Bangladesh. He then went on to score a double ton in an ODI against New Zealand. He also carried his form in T20Is as he also added a century in the shortest format as he scored 126 runs against the Kiwis in Ahmedabad.
