Ahmedabad set to host final of the World cup as 12 cities set to get hosting rights for the tournament

There will be 48 matches contested during the course of the 46-day tournament in India in 2023, which is slated to begin on October 5 and conclude on November 19. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is expected to be chosen as one of the final 12 venues for the World Cup games to be played in India.

What are the venues decided for the 50-over World Cup as per reports?

Cricket World Cup matches will also be held in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, and Mumbai in addition to Ahmedabad. The venues for most of the games in particular have not been decided by the Indian board.

The Indian board was forced to wait for the Indian government’s clearance and a better understanding of the effects of the monsoon on various venues at various periods before it could inform the international board.

The Indian Cricket Board had to obtain a tax exemption from the government of India for the competition, and there was also a diplomatic issue with the Pakistan cricket team playing there, which delayed the publishing of the schedule.

The host nation must obtain tax exemption from the government in accordance with Apex Cricket Council regulations in order to host competitions run by the international organization. The unfavourable effect on the Board’s earnings from the Apex Cricket Council, if a 21.84 per cent tax is paid, would be USD 116.47 million, according to the Indian Cricket Board statement shared with the state organizations.

In the past ten years, India has hosted the 20-20 World Cups in 2016 and 2021. The last time India hosted the 50-over World Cup was in 2011, but they weren’t the only ones; Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also served as co-hosts for that massive event.

After hitting the legendary six to Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Kulasekara in the title-winning game at Wankhede Stadium in 2011, MS Dhoni raised the World Cup trophy. That was the last win for India in a World Cup final and fans are hoping for another World Cup on home soil.
