‘Was he really that tired……’ – Ajay Jadeja questions on Ishan Kishan being rested for last two T20Is vs Australia
Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja questioned why Ishan Kishan didn’t get the chance to play in India’s XI during the bilateral series against Australia. Notably, the left-handed batter came in at number three during the first three T20Is but didn’t find the spot in the last two games due to Shreyas Iyer and Jitesh Sharma’s presence. The 26-year-old cricketer was part of the ODI World Cup 2023, where he played the first two games owing to Shubman Gill’s illness.
Ajay Jadeja questioned Team India about why Ishan Kishan went home after the first three T20Is despite not being in India’s playing line-up for the ODI World Cup 2023. In addition, the former great all-rounder feels the top-order batter deserves to be in the ODI World Cup 2023 matches too, thanks to his double century, which he made against Bangladesh in December 2022.
“There was a series right after the World Cup. Ishan Kishan played three matches and went home. Was he really that tired after three matches that he needed rest? He didn’t even play a lot of games at the World Cup. He deserved his spot in the playing XI for the first few World Cup matches. How many Indian players have scored a double century on a good day?” said Ajay Jadeja in Sports Tak.
Ishan Kishan didn’t even play the entire five-match T20I series against Australia: Ajay Jadeja
The 52-year-old cricketer believes that the southpaw won’t get a chance in the 2024 T20 World Cup if he is not part of the bilateral series. However, Ajay Jadeja also opened up about India’s loss against Australia on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
“Ishan Kishan didn’t even play the entire five-match T20I series against Australia. He was sent home after three matches to rest. So, if this is going to continue, how will you ensure that he is fully ready? Australia didn’t have a set plan. India, on the other hand, stuck to the same approach, which is why Australia were able to make a plan,” he added further.
