‘At times there is miscommunication…’ – Sarfaraz Khan opens up on his dismissal in 3rd Test match against England
Sarfaraz Khan, on his Test cricket debut, had quite an emotional day at work. On day 1 of the 3rd Test match, Sarfaraz smashed an incredible half-century on Thursday. He had been eyeing a spot in the national team for almost two years and finally, when he got a chance, he made the most out of it. Following a tearful morning ceremony, Sarfaraz’s father was watching his son bat against England from the terraces and commentary box. Moreover, after the match, Sarfaraz opened up about the miscommunication that happened with Ravindra Jadeja.
Sarfaraz said, “At times there is miscommunication, and it is a part of the game. Mujhe baat karke khelna accha lagta hai (I like talking while batting). So I told Jadeja to keep talking to me while I bat. He supported me a lot today and spoke to me at lunchtime. He told me how debutants feel and how he felt as a debutant. I was a bit nervous, especially when I played my first sweep and missed it. But he told me to take some time.”
Sarfaraz entered the game to control the England team’s pacers and spinners. In his 66-ball 62, the 26-year-old hammered nine boundaries and a six while remaining rotating the strike whenever possible. Sarfaraz crushed the spinners all over the park, without even thinking twice about going aerial against them.
A good 1st day for India; scores 326-5
After winning the toss, India decided to bat first, keeping the flat wicket in mind. The decision turned out in their favour after the 11th over when Ravindra Jadeja came in to bat. Before that, India lost three quick wickets as Yashasvi Jaiwasl scored 10 runs, Shubman Gill was dismissed for a duck and Rajat Patidar scored just 5 runs.
When India was struggling at 33-3, Jadeja (110) came in and handled the match along with Rohit Sharma (131). Both the batters scored a century, while Sarfaraz Khan scored 62 runs off 66 balls. For England, it was Mark Wood who made a comeback in the 3rd Test match and took three wickets at an economy of 4.10. Moreover, as four more days are left, it will be interesting to see how the match unfolds.
