‘That is universal truth’ – Fans react as Australia’s star opener calls Virat Kohli as greatest run-chaser in cricket history

Australia’s star opener, Usman Khawaja, gave his opinion on the parallels and comparisons made between the iconic Indian players Virat Kohli and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in one of his recent interviews. The opening batsman talks about who is the greater threat in 50-over cricket and also shares the skillsets of these two batting legends.

The left-handed batsman feels that India’s stalwart Virat Kohli is slightly better than the iconic Sachin Tendulkar in ODIs. In addition, the 36-year-old cricketer feels that Virat Kohli has great stats in 50-over format while playing such few games as compared to former opening batsman Sachin Tendulkar. The southpaw also revealed that Bharat Ratna awardee Sachin Tendulkar was the big name during his childhood days, but Virat Kohli has taken that spot in the current era.

“I am going to say Virat Kohli is better than Sachin Tendulkar in ODIs. If you look at the stats, he has almost taken over how many hundreds he (Tendulkar) has got, and he has played so many more less games. Sachin was the benchmark for when I grew up, but what Kohli is doing right now—no one has ever done that in the game,” Usman Khawaja said.

The thing I love about Virat Kohli is his consistency: Usman Khawaja

However, the opening batsman called Virat Kohli the greatest chase master, especially in the 50 overs of cricket. The Islamabad-born cricketer says that the RCB stalwart’s consistency in all three formats of cricket draws his attention towards him and inspires him. Moreover, the WTC 2023 winning member feels former India skipper Virat Kohli is a two- and four-hitter and does not get many sixes during the games.

“He is the greatest of the run chasers that we have seen in One-Day cricket. The thing I love about Virat is his consistency. The reason I believe he is so consistent over such a long period of time is that he is the greatest two and four-hitter I have seen. He doesn’t hit a lot of sixes in ODIs,” he added further.
