‘Can’t wait to give my all to my favourite subject…’ – India opener Shafali Verma elated as she aces 12th Board Exams

India Women’s batter Shafali Verma hit another half-century, but this time it came off the field as the 19-year-old passed her CBSE 12th Board Exams with an impressive result of over 80% marks. The Haryana-born cricketer, who led India‘s U-19 team to a World Cup triumph earlier this year, shared her joy on social media, adding that her attention will now be focused on her favourite subject – cricket.

Shafali took to her Instagram account on Saturday to share her mark sheet and wrote, “2023 mei ek aur bohot special 80+ smash kiya, but iss baar 12th boards mei! (Another very special 80+ smash in 2023, but this time in 12th boards!) I am very happy with my results and can’t wait to give my all to my favourite subject – cricket!”

Shafali became the youngest cricketer to play for India in a Women’s T20I match when she was 15 years old. The right-handed batter has appeared in 79 international matches for India, scoring 2106 runs with an incredible strike rate. She has scored 1333 runs at a strike rate of 132.11 in 56 T20Is and five fifties in the shortest format.

The young batter was also vital in her franchise Delhi Capitals’ successful campaign in the maiden edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Shafali smashed 252 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 185.29 and helped DC to qualify for the final of the marquee event, where they lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets at the Brabourne Stadium.

As Shafali wrote in her post, 2023 has been good for her so far as she led Team India in the inaugural edition of the Under-19 Women’s 20-20 World Cup to victory. The young girls defeated England by 7 wickets to lift the trophy, the first major world title for any Indian women’s cricket team.

Shafali, who is known for her attacking game and providing brisk starts in the powerplay, has also featured in other cricket leagues and represented teams such as Sydney Sixers Women, Birmingham Phoenix (Women) and Velocity.
