‘Dar ka mahol hai’ – Fans react as Steve Smith set to lead Australia in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Test against India
In the third Test match against India, stand-in skipper Steve Smith led Australia to a nine-wicket victory. Several sources indicate Smith would continue to serve as captain for the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad as there is no update on regular skipper Pat Cummins. The management is in continual contact with Cummins, according to Australian coach Andrew McDonald, who also asserted that a decision regarding his availability will be made shortly.
“He is obviously dealing with what he is dealing with at home but he is still so invested in the group. Our thoughts are still with him and his family at this difficult time,” McDonald was quoted as saying to the reporters.
Smith asserted that Cummins remains the captain of the side following the victory in Indore, stating that he has done his time as captain. “My time is done. It’s Pat’s team now. I’ve obviously been able to stand in this week, obviously in tough circumstances with Patty going home. Our thoughts are still with him back home,” Smith said.
Nathon Lyon shines as Australia defeats India
Due to a health issue, Cummins left the team after the second Test in Delhi to be with his family. It had been reported that he might return for the last Test, but that now seems doubtful.
On March 9, the final Test will begin. Australia recovered from losing the first two tests by winning the third, and the final test is currently in good shape. With a victory in Indore, Australia has guaranteed their place in the WTC final, while India still has a chance to earn the other slot for the final match. India needs to win to get to the final because a draw would force them to rely on other outcomes.
Australia won the third Test in the first session of Day 3. The Kangaroos won the match in the 19th over with nine wickets in hand. Australia’s veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance with the ball in both innings. He bagged a total of 11 wickets in the match.
