‘Not there for my father in those situations, what kind of son I am?…’ – Deepak Chahar backs decision to miss South Africa tour

India’s star cricketer, Deepak Chahar, backs the decision to miss the South Africa tour. According to sources, Chahar’s father suffered a brain stroke and was hospitalized, which caused him to miss the South Africa tour. Notably, the CSK star was named for the T20I squad and the ODI squad; however, he requested to go back to his country for personal reasons.

However, the 31-year-old cricketer revealed that for him, his father comes up first, and he is at the epitome of his career, which is just because of his father. In addition, the right-arm pacer feels that if the series were in India, he would have tried hard to be there to be part of Rohit Sharma and Co. The CSK star says that he was in the hospital with his father in Aligarh and that missing the tour was an easy decision, and anyone would have done that.

“For me, my father comes first. I am here only because of him. Whatever I have achieved is because of my father. If I am not there for him in those situations, then obviously, what kind of son I am?. If the series was in India, then I would have surely tried to play. You can come to the hospital if you need within 4-5 hours. But obviously, [from] South Africa it takes 2-3 days to come back. It was an easy decision to be with my father. Any son would do that,” Deepak Chahar told PTI.

Deepak Chahar now wants to be a part of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, the great seamer missed two marquee events owing to injuries, but he aims to be fit to get a place in the upcoming event.

“I have missed two [T20] World Cups because of my injuries. If I was fully fit, I would have been a part of the World Cup team as well. In any scenario or any team combination, there is always a requirement for a bowler who can bat at Nos. 7, 8, 9. I have done that and scored runs for the Indian team,” he added further.
